Faced with rejection at the first modeling audition at 17, Ilunga realized the negative response stemmed from Hong Kong’s beauty standards that she, as an immigrant from the Democratic Republic of Congo, couldn’t uphold. After landing a few gigs through sheer perseverance, she decided to upend the industry and start a modeling agency and movement to promote diversity in the industry
